I analyzed employee attrition patterns across a 1,470-person organization
using SQL in Google BigQuery. The data led me to identify compensation not culture, as the primary driver of a 16.1% attrition rate, with Sales Representatives at highest risk at 39.8% turnover.
Key findings:
- Attrition peaks in Years 0-1 at 35%+ — an onboarding problem, not a loyalty problem
- Overtime workers leave at 3x the rate of non-overtime workers
- Compensation is the only variable that meaningfully separates high and low attrition roles
